Does Wikipedia have any critics?

It just occurred to me that I don't think a single recognised wikipedia 'Critic' exists. I think every single person that I can think of (form Daniel Brandt, to the Wikipedia Review crowd) has been firmly labeled a 'troll' or worse. Surely wikipedia can support healthy, critical discussion? - I realise this could well be an oversight on my part - so please do let me know if there are in fact any people out there who have published criticisms of Wikipedia, and not been called a troll.

They can call anyone they like a troll, it doesn't mean the rest of the world entirely agrees with them. (It just feels like it.)

Not allowing criticism is of course a hallmark of groups referred to as cu*ts lol.:)

But quite a few people and groups have criticized them-

Encyclopedia Dramatica, which they deride, but within which are very perspicatious commentaries on wikipedia.

Wikipedia Review, Wikitruth, Wikipedia Watch, and don't forget

A "troll" or worse? I'd say that "troll" was one of the kinder descriptions. When I was monitoring Wikipedia's main IRC channel over a year ago, I saw lots of criticism of my criticism: http://www.wikipedia-watch.org/chat2.html

(Hi Daniel - should I be nervous?!)

For me the most interesting angle is the 'bigger picture' one. For a long time, what people have written about you left me with a mild distrust (and it's nothing personal, but I've never really found myself that engaged with your situation) - certainly I could accept on face value that someone publishing personal details for whatever motivation was a pretty extreme kind of guy.

Where it gets interesting is when wiki editors become entrenched in the growing siege mentality and see Reds under the bed (as Dan T would say) - and my intention in this post was to highlight the fact that of the many criticisms leveled by many people, and organisations, never have certain sections of the community found even a single grain of valuable constructive truth.

I guess I'm saying that there comes a point when that says a lot about the culture shifts over there.

I presume PM means about his unique circumstance/Arbcom, but his case also is related to the (new-er) lot of disturbing stuff happening on wikipedia recently, IMHO.

Anything that gives criticism of wikipedia more mainstream press attention, is a good thing.
